Welcome Neighbour! Life beyond banking with G&F Financial Group

From a beauty bar to a stocked bar, the shops and services at SOLO District ensure everything residents need is just steps away. Now another new businesses has opened, bringing one more essential amenity to the community.

G&F Financial Group is now open and helping people from North Burnaby and beyond manage their money.

Here are a few details on G&F Financial Group’s beautiful new location and why stopping by might just change the way you look at your finances.

WHO ARE YOU?: My name is Johnny Yeap and I’m the Branch Manager at G&F Financial Group’s newest location in SOLO District.

WHAT IS G&F FINANCIAL GROUP?: G&F Financial Group is a full service Credit Union, offering personal and business banking, wealth management and insurance products and services, as well as qualified financial advice.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO OPEN A BRANCH AT SOLO DISTRICT?: SOLO District is central and connected, and epitomizes the future of urban living. With improvements to rapid transit and new residential, retail and office development, the population of the community is projected to increase by 41 percent in the next six years alone. Appia kept residents in mind when building and designing SOLO District, and that matches our vision as a member-centric organization.

DO YOU HAVE OTHER LOCATIONS?: G&F Financial Group spans most of Metro Vancouver, with 14 branches throughout Vancouver, Richmond, Surrey, Port Coquitlam, New Westminster, Langley and Burnaby. We have over 29,000 members and $1.8 billion in total assets under administration. SOLO District is our third Burnaby branch, and our head office is here, too. We’re proud to have deep roots in this community.

WHAT’S SOMETHING PEOPLE MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT G&F FINANCIAL GROUP?: We’ve been serving the Lower Mainland for over 75 years. In fact, the very first credit union in B.C. is just one of the many credit unions that have come together over the years to become who and what we are today – one of the province’s top 10 largest credit unions, providing financial solutions and advice that always have a member’s best interests at heart.

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A CREDIT UNION AND A BIG BANK?: The biggest difference is that our members are also our owners, which means they have an important say in how we operate. We’re also local, so decisions are made close to home, not at a head office in Ontario. We know the local markets and understand the challenges faced by our members/owners because we face those challenges ourselves. We support the communities where we work and live – the local charities, schools and organizations. We also prioritize cooperation and collaboration, which often means working with other credit unions, businesses and other groups to come up with the best solutions for our members and our communities.
